Semestre en el mar

El tema de esta entrada me pareció conveniente e interesante. Por un lado coincide con los afanes de internacionalización de nuestra universidad (actualmente elevado a máxima meta institucional) y por otro me permite ahondar en el tema de las habilidades para el aprendizaje en universitarios. Se trata de un programa que promueve que un grupo multicultural y multidisciplinario de estudiantes de nivel licenciatura, cursen un semestre a bordo de un sofisticado barco, mientras navegan por el mundo (Semester at Sea)

A partir del verano de 2006, el programa estará patrocinado académicamente por la Universidad de Virginia y el programa de cursos está formado por aproximadamente 75 materias a elegir de entre 20 áreas del conocimiento. Los estudiantes sólo están obligados a tomar una materia (la primera de hecho) llamada Estudios Globales, el resto de materias son de libre elección.
Every student takes Global Studies, an upper-level geography course, which is the intellectual focus for Semester at Sea. A multi-disciplinary overview of the areas and issues encountered during the voyage, Global Studies highlights the complexity, dynamics, and interdependence of world systems.
El campus flotante es una moderna embarcación de 24 mil ton construido en 2002 en astilleros alemanes, desarrolla una velocidad de 28 nudos y está dotada de una gran biblioteca a bordo (11 mil títulos), tiendas restaurantes, piscinas, gimnacio y laboratorios. Por supuesto la conexión a internet es wifi. la dotación del barco es de 125 entre oficiales y tripulantes. El cupo semestral para estudiantes es de 650. Los itinerarios para 2006 son increibles y recorren literalmente el mundo. Los puertos mexicanos que pisarán en 2006 son Ensenada y Cabo San Lucas.
